The Jean Tweed Centre is a non-profit that provides hope, help, and healing to women and children impacted by violence, trauma, substance use, housing instability, mental health, and related challenges.
We operate 7 locations across the GTA, with 253 beds of transitional and supportive housing and more than 31 specialized programs and services. Our unique Child Development Centre ensures children receive the care and developmental support they need, and our Palmerston House program is one of the only in Ontario where women can live with their newborns and young children during recovery, supported by wraparound services.
In 2024 alone, we supported over 15,000 women, children, and families, and over our 42-year history, we have positively impacted more than 150,000 lives.
The upcoming Taste of Italy Gala on October 24th is a critical fundraising event. All proceeds from sponsorships, ticket sales, and donations go directly toward sustaining and expanding our free programs and services. Over the last three years, demand for our services has grown by over 35%, and with the urgent need for more housing, expanded services, and essential supplies—especially with winter approaching—this event is vital to help us meet the growing needs in our community.
This year, we have set a goal to raise $50,000 to help support the expansion of Palmerston House, allowing us to house and serve more women and children. These funds will also strengthen our intimate partner violence programs and enable us to expand supports across all of our services—from providing more resources for children and families, to making vital improvements to our Child Development Centre. In short, your support will help us grow our programs so we can meet women and children where they are, with the care, stability, and hope they deserve.
